Oranges, lemons, and green limes heap on a blue-and-white ceramic plate at the edge of a dark table, their leafed branches arcing upward like dark flames. A halved orange bares glistening segmented flesh that seems lit from within; nearly half the canvas rests in breathing darkness. The mood is opulent yet austere — abundance held in monastic silence. It anchors a dining room, kitchen, or moody gallery wall.

The bodegón — Spain's austere answer to the still life — treated a plate of fruit with the reverence other painters reserved for saints. Francisco de Zurbarán's Still Life with Lemons, Oranges and a Rose (1633) set citrus against blackness like an altar offering, and Juan Sánchez Cotán arranged produce in darkness with near-geometric devotion; a century later, Luis Meléndez perfected the heaped tabletop pantry scene. This print gathers those threads — the spot-lit fruit, the lost edges dissolving into shadow, the blue-and-white ware recalling Spain's Talavera ceramics. And oranges are Seville's own signature, perfuming Andalusian courtyards since the Moorish gardeners first planted them. What the Golden Age masters saw in this fruit — the unhurried wealth of the Mediterranean harvest — still glows on this canvas.

Printed archival quality on museum-grade 200gsm matte stock that keeps the near-black ground rich, never muddy, while the cadmium oranges hold their heat. Pair with an antique gold or dark walnut frame — bright white frames fight it. Part of the Atrecho Art Fruit | Vegetables Collection — gallery wall ready.

Our Story

Atrecho Art began with an obsession: the art that lines the walls of old European estates — the devotional portraits found in the side chapels of Seville’s cathedral. We are a family-owned small business bringing that spirit home, one print at a time. Thank you for supporting independent art.
