Pale ivory stones spill across a worn stone ledge, each inscribed with a fine gilded sigil, tumbling from a cream silk pouch cinched with a tasseled gold cord. An amber goblet burns like a lantern at the left; a gilt-tooled book waits in shadow above. The mood is hushed, secretive, contemplative. It belongs over a desk, in a study, or a dim reading corner. *(64 words)*

Seventeenth-century still life turned the tabletop into a place of meaning. In Haarlem, Pieter Claesz and Willem Claesz Heda built near-monochrome *banketje* pictures around a knopped roemer and a ledge edge. In Leiden, Harmen Steenwyck arranged books and half-drunk glasses as vanitas emblems of knowledge and transience. Spanish *bodegón* painters — Sánchez Cotán, Zurbarán — stripped the genre to a reverent austerity, while the followers of Caravaggio gave it the single raking light that pulls objects out of blackness. Alongside them ran the scholar's-cabinet picture: David Teniers the Younger painted alchemists at work among apothecary bottles and gilded volumes, their pages crowded with invented glyphs and monograms. This print gathers those threads — goblet, book, and cast stones with their arcane sigils — onto one candlelit table. *(129 words)*

Printed on museum-grade 200gsm archival paper, with a matte finish that holds the near-black ground and the dry, broken gold of the sigils. Pair with an aged gold or dark walnut frame and a cream mat. Part of the Atrecho Art Still Life Collection — gallery wall ready. *(48 words)*

Our Story

Atrecho Art began with an obsession: the art that lines the walls of old European estates — the devotional portraits found in the side chapels of Seville’s cathedral. We are a family-owned small business bringing that spirit home, one print at a time. Thank you for supporting independent art.
