A starling turns its finely streaked face to the light, its near-black plumage catching an oily sheen as it perches on a slender twig. Green and gold-touched foliage and a cluster of orange berries surround it; the aged surface shows a fine web of craquelure. The mood is brooding and scholarly — a bird observed by candlelight. It suits a study, library, or dark-academia gallery wall.

The spotless starling — Sturnus unicolor — is a bird of the Iberian Peninsula, resident across Spain and Portugal, where its glossy plumage and gift for mimicry have long drawn notice; Pliny the Elder wrote of starlings' talent for imitating human speech, and Mozart famously kept one as a companion. Painters of the Dutch and Flemish Golden Age placed such birds against deep shadow, rendering each feather with naturalist devotion and letting time's craquelure settle over the varnish. This print carries that Old World hush — an Iberian songbird spot-lit from darkness, aged like a picture long kept in a study.
