Saint Anthony of Padua cradles the infant Christ against his shoulder, his young face bowed in tender devotion beneath a brown Franciscan hood. The Child rests a small hand on his chest while a posy of pink and coral roses glows in the saint's hands; both figures emerge from deep, sacred shadow. The mood is intimate and reverent — divine love in candlelight. It graces a prayer corner, entryway, or devotional gallery wall.
Saint Anthony of Padua — born in Lisbon in 1195, a Franciscan preacher revered across the Catholic world as the patron of lost things — is most tenderly shown with the infant Christ, recalling the vision in which the Child appeared in his arms. No painter captured that intimacy like Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, whose devotional canvases for the churches of seventeenth-century Seville defined the Spanish Baroque's warm, luminous piety. This print descends from that Sevillian tradition of Counter-Reformation devotion: the saint and Child spot-lit from tenebrist darkness, the flowers a symbol of purity, every glaze softened by an Old Master's hand.

Atrecho Art began with an obsession: the art that lines the walls of old European estates — the devotional portraits found in the side chapels of Seville’s cathedral. We are a family-owned small business bringing that spirit home, one print at a time. Thank you for supporting independent art.
